Would you buy a Kia K5?

@Mal
I agree with this 100%, turbo engines aren’t always the most reliable but there’s warranty!!!

My telluride is the most reliable Kia model and my transmission went out driving down interstate never towed etc. at 18k. Warranty replaced it but it was not nearly as clean nor prompt as my last car which was an infiniti.

It was clearly toast and undrivable, advisor admitted this right away but said Kia can take a while. Sure enough they took 10 days of weird testing before approving the repair. I get if they want to diagnose it but do that on your time not mine, and they wouldn’t give me a rental until it was approved. The loaner/rental I think varies by dealer, if they had a loaner available they probably would have given it to me.

I picked the best Kia dealer in a 3M metro area and it’s still pretty weak compared to other dealers I’ve used over the years. Just had to bring it in again for an oil leak at 30k, warranty fix which went much smoother, much less expensive repair, but am getting a bit cautious ab keeping this thing too far over 100k which is sad because I really like it.

@Mal
I also had a horrible experience with my kia after just 48,000 miles. It took months for the warranty to agree to cover the repairs and I’ve been advised by every non-KIA mechanic to get rid of the car and to never buy a KIA again. I also loved my car before it pooped out on me :frowning: KIA makes good-looking cars with great gas mileage. It’s a shame they break down so easily

@Kerry
Agreed. I would not buy another one. Also the new telluride is a downgrade from the 2022.

Lol good luck with the warranty. I have one one my 2011 optima ex… I got a special card in the mail from Kia saying if my engine started consuming oil before 15 years/150k miles, I get a new engine. Well, mine has 96k miles and is using a quart every 350 miles. They said it’s lower engine, but when I mentioned the warranty, they said “oh that’s a DIFFERENT lower engine problem that uses oil.”

Kia doesn’t honor warranties, and when they do, expect to not have a car for 3 months. (Happened to my friend as well, but they did get a new engine after 3 months.)

@Mal
I think the best balance is a port/direct combo. Direct is much more efficient and when you add the port on top of it, it really negates the most severe deficit of the direct inject engine.

But im with yeah, a year ago I bought a truck and specifically went with a Nissan frontier, cause while it is direct injected, it’s literally the only mid-size truck that is NA and I still get like 22/26 for fuel economy

@Zen
If toyota has direct injection it’s coupled with pfi that runs on the highway to clean the valves. I bit the bullet too with the telluride, I get the GDI svc every 10k to hopefully help…

Yeah I really like that about Toyota engines, wish dual injection was utilized more.

I had my Kia die on me over 2 months ago. Ran fine, was driving 3 hours and an hour in it just died on me. The engine seized up with the connecting rod bearing failure. There was no check engine light or any form of warning, just failed.

After a few days I was able to get it towed to the dealer, it cost me about $900 by this point. After another week they confirmed it was the connecting rod bearing failure and would replace the engine free in 4-6 weeks. Took 8 weeks.

I got the car back and the steering is crooked and they couldn’t bother fixing the 10 recalls on the car. Yes this is the dealers fault not kias but having 10 recalls is on Kia.

Kia is now refusing to reimburse me for tow costs that they say they will because I don’t have a police or fire report saying that the failure was related to the connecting rod bearing. I didn’t call 911, I had no reason to have a police report. So they won’t reimburse my $900. I asked the dealer and they can’t provide me any documentation of what the failure was other than the receipt.

Kia knowingly didn’t use immobilizers on their cars in the US market to save a couple dollars per car. They included them for Canadian cars because it’s the law. It’s not that they forgot, they knowingly made the choice to save a few bucks.

They’re a shit company with bad morals and they make a shit product. Ask any mechanic and they’ll tell you kias are terrible cars.

Is that original enough for you?

I’ve got one, and I love it. It’s got great gas milage
It’s got great safety ratings and safety features. It’s cool looking, and it’s just got great bang for the buck.

They’re nice cars but the cost to insure one around here is $$$ so I would pass for that reason alone

That really sucks.

I wouldnt buy a Kia,I trust Korean cars less than Japanese cars.

@JamesJohnson
They don’t touch K5’s or steal them, you’re literally just chatting…

I’ve been advised to sell my KIA immediately. The oil sensor broke and oil poured into my engine, totaling the car. I had to fight the warranty company tooth and nail to prove it wasn’t my fault. The car had only 48,000 miles on it. Every mechanic I’ve talked to throughout this process has said they would never buy a KIA. They’re poorly made. I wish I had known that. I did love the look of my car and the gas mileage was fantastic, but it’s not worth knowing something else is likely going to go wrong. I don’t want to be the party pooper here, but that was just my experience.

No YOU’RE just chatting. I live in Georgia and mine literally got stolen while I was asleep and got recovered in a whole other county 3 weeks later after insurance paid out the car already, now my premium is through the roof because of “high risk”. I used the money to get a Camaro later on, I loved the K5 but they get stolen and broken into all the time. If you like the car just say that but don’t act like it can’t be stolen. That sounds ridiculous to those of us who worked hard and were targeted by TikTok thief’s.

No because insurance for Hyundai/Kia are too high in Florida . The K 5 looks great but financially smarter purchase would be an accord or Camry for cheaper insurance and higher resale value

I love my k5! Are those two different cars? The wheels look different on each side
