Would you buy a Kia K5?

If yes, explain why.

If not, explain why.

Yes, and in fact I did in September, a 2024! It’s my 3rd Kia. Got the Sephia in 2000 and the only reason I traded it in for the 2004 Spectra is I didn’t want to drive a stick shift anymore. Kept that Spectra for 19 years 2 months.

Fun story… I was at my dealership last year getting the oil changed and state inspection on my 2004, and I always walk around the lot while I’m getting that done. Mainly because my car was older and I was always nervous so I had to do something. Anyway, I was looking at the newer vehicles, and I happen to notice the K5. I think I drooled. when I went to buy a new car, I had no intention of getting this one. I went for a Forte. They didn’t have one I wanted on the lot, the only one was fire orange that color is atrocious. I happened to see the car I have now kind of hiding in a different part of the lot and drove away and a couple hours later. It only had 14 miles on it, so I have no idea why it was hiding. Going from a 2004 to a 2024 is interesting to say the least. I really had no idea of most of the technological advances in cars.

@Harlan
Ha, I actually got the fire orange forte cause I loved the color. I don’t know why, all my other cars have been pretty drab

Me too! 3 months in.

@Harlan
I know the feeling. Coming from my 2003 Acura tl, to a 2019 kia forte. Even that car felt like a spaceship compared to the Acura. Comfortably back in the Honda family though with a 2020 si

@Lucypiper
?? Quit hatin

It was my dream car, I really wanted one after I finished paying off my Rio but then my Rio got stolen and just can’t take that risk anymore so I traded it for a different brand.

Where you live is a factor.

I’ve had my K5 for two years now and haven’t had any incidents with it being tampered with. And it sits in front of my garage because my project race car is in there.

It really depends on where you live, but seems the thefts are centralized to major city areas. For what it’s worth I’ve not seen anything on the sub (though I could have missed it) about K5’s or Stingers getting broken into. That all said, peace of mind is also important and I don’t blame you for wanting to steer clear of the brand for a few years until this has had time to blow over.

@Morgan
I thought they had a recall where anti-theft software was put on Kia’s? I have a 2017 Optima an had that done last yr. Maybe it’s just Optima and Forte?

Well that’s very smart, if you were scared the K5 was going to be stolen it wasn’t, but seems like your area doesn’t like Kia so that’s understandable.

@Bela
I know the newer models have better anti-theft equipment but these criminals may not know it and break stuff either way, may not get the car stolen but I wouldn’t want unecessary damages.

@Ty
I’ve had two kias, both were great until well my dear rio got stolen and sure it was recovered along with the perpetrator caught but I had to trade it in for another brand just in case, I went with the subaru crosstrek and I love it so far, never had an SUV before.

@Bao
Had my Kia Rio stolen a few days ago. Got an estimate for the steering column and rear window for 2000 DOLLARS.

It’s just not worth it.

@Bao
I have a 2021 crosstrek and I love it. if you live where it snows its one of the best cars (but don’t get overconfident or else you’ll be in a ditch)

@Bela
One other problem is the insurance on these. Some states are downright refusing the insure a Kia or the rates are insanely expensive!

Only some of the models

Damn… a $35k KIA is your dream car? Im gonna sound rude but dream bigger man

@Pax
What is a more appropriate dream car?

A Cadillac CT5-V for 58k?

A Dodge Challenger Hellcat for 73k?

A Lexus LC-500 for 92k?

An Audi R8 for $158k?

An Aston Martin DBS for 330k?

A Ferrari SF90 for 575k?

A Bugatti Divo for 5.9m?

Serious question… At what point is it okay to mock someone for having a dream that’s achievable? As long as someone’s not negatively AND directly affecting you with their life choices, don’t be so judgemental.

@Morgan
Well, Kia’s suck ass and are Avis Rent A Car tier, so there’s that.
