Oil change information on my Kia K5

I don’t understand why people think they know better than the engineers that built the engines. Always go off the manual unless you’re using the car in a way that was not intended.

Because many people realize oil filters typically have a service life of about 5k miles. While the oil might still be decent, the filter usually needs to be replaced by that time.

@Rex
The manual says 8k or 12 months.

Not for harsh conditions.

Check your manual for this information. Should be every 5k.

Depends on the oil type. Full synthetic oil lasts longer than 5k.

Full Synthetic is 10,000 miles, lol.

I always do between 5k and 6k. For non-turbo, the manual and the Kia app says you’re supposed to change it around 7k miles. Turbo is around 5k in the manual and 6k in the Kia access app.

Thank you.

I just got my K5 GT last month, and they told me to get the first change at around 4-5k miles.

I bought my '24 brand new and got my first change at 7500. I will probably go 4-6k in between each change.

I just hit 6,200; the dealership recommended between 5,000-7,000 miles. No issues, no complaints.

You can go up to 7500 miles if it’s regular oil or 10,000 miles if it’s synthetic oil. Don’t go every 3,000 or 5,000 miles; that’s how dealerships make tons of money.

Every 5k miles unless driven hard, then every 3k. But the OEM oil will last 6-7k before it’s like okay. Go into settings, and it will tell you the remaining life plus miles.

Thank you; I do drive it pretty hard.

@Deen
Yeah, I drive my K5 hard too, and I get mine every 4-6k, and it’s fine. If you feel concerned, check your dipstick; if it’s darker brown, it’s still good and will be okay for another 500 miles.

If you want your car to last, every 5000 miles might be a bit much, but better safe than sorry.

I do my first change at 2500/3000 with every new vehicle purchased. After that, I follow the regular maintenance schedule. For the 1.6 (I own a GT-L), that is every 8k.

Keep giving those dealerships tons of money. :man_shrugging:

@Van
First one I took the synthetic & filter and just paid for labor. Subsequent 8k changes up to 36 months are covered by Kia. So…nice try.

Thanks, I have a 2013 Optima; oil changed every 7500 miles, moved to synthetic oil at 100,000 miles, and now I change it every 10,000 miles. I’m at 199,078 miles and haven’t had a single issue. Still on the original engine too. So…nice try back at ya.

@Van
Not sure what you’re trying to say here…I was responding to the ‘Keep giving those dealerships tons of money’ crack. As stated, I’m not.

@Van
I changed mine at 1000 miles, did it myself.
