Kia K5 owners what do you think about the car so far

I bought one very recently. I’m really enjoying it so far. The ride is smooth, the tech is great, and the exterior looks super cool. Nothing I dislike so far.

I agree. I haven’t seen a car with such a good exterior in a long time. I was also considering the 2021 Civic, but the K5 just feels better overall. Thanks for sharing!

@Vann
I test drove a 2021 Civic and ultimately chose the K5. I felt the interior was nicer (roomier and I liked the entertainment screen better), the exterior looked way better, and the tech was superior (wireless Apple CarPlay is fantastic).

Honda makes great cars. My family has four Hondas among them. They’re super reliable. But I didn’t want to get a family sedan, and I preferred the K5’s style and tech. Ultimately, it comes down to what you want in a car. The resale value of Hondas and their reliability are hard to overlook, but personal preference matters.

Exactly my thoughts!

I love my Optima EX hybrid.

It doesn’t have heated seats even with the premium package, which I find to be one of the worst features. A 28k car can have red leather but not heated seats, unlike a 20k Civic.

From my research over a day or two, it seems the EX comes with heated and ventilated seats as standard.

Your research is off

I think heated and ventilated seats are features only for the EX and GT trims, which one do you have?

I have the K5 GT-Line, wolf gray with red interior, and the premium package. I’ve had it for about 2 months and put 2600 miles on it. I love it so much. I’ve gotten many compliments on it. It’s fun to drive. (I test drove a Stinger, which is much more powerful, but I have just as much fun in my K5; I’m not racing anyway.)

I thought moving from a V6 Buick to a 4-cylinder would be tough, but I never feel like the K5 is underpowered. The gas mileage is great; if I don’t drive like a speed demon, I can get about 34.5 mpg. Even when I do drive fast, it still doesn’t drop below 31 mpg. Compared to the 17-18 mpg I got in my Buick, I love not having to stop for gas every few days.

I tinted the windows 20% all around, which makes it look great, and with the panoramic windows, visibility is good for me. I love the blind spot warning; I didn’t have that in my Buick and always wanted it. The backup camera is excellent too; I adapted to it quickly, unlike the Buick.

I’m happy it has remote start, just like my Buick, which I couldn’t live without. The lane departure warning and assist work well, and the adaptive headlights are nice too.

The only feature missing is heated seats, which my ex-wife loved, but the red leather seats don’t get too cold even when it’s about 25f outside. The trunk is really big.

One odd thing is the interior lights. There’s a button that needs to be turned on for the lights to work when you open the doors; otherwise, you have to hit the LED light for each seat to turn it on. The LED is bright but focuses too much and doesn’t fully light things up like you might want. (Not a big deal)

I haven’t had an issue with Android Auto (although I’ve heard others do). The Bluetooth connects quickly—faster than any cars I’ve had.

With the blind spot assist, lane departure assist, and adaptive cruise control, it feels kind of like driving a low-budget self-driving car.

Another thing that’s “missing” is that it comes with carpet mats up front. I bought heavy-duty clear mats to protect them because I didn’t want the carpet getting stained or dirty.

Most cars lack rear cup holders or USB ports, and I wish they did, but that isn’t just a problem for Kia.
