Rattle from the Rear of the Car

Has anyone else experienced a rattle coming from the back of the car? It sounds like a quick tapping in the area of the rear windshield or upper hatch. Here’s what I’ve already checked:

  • Seatbelts
  • License plate
  • Trunk and trunk arms
  • Spare tire
  • Electrical wires/cables under the trunk

The car is a 2025 GT-Line. I’ve taken it to the dealer, but they couldn’t replicate the rattle since it only happens occasionally. They inspected the suspension, and everything seemed fine. The noise occurs in both hot and cold weather, over big and small bumps. I can drive the same road multiple times, but the rattle only happens sporadically.

I thought I was losing it! I just got the car, and I keep hearing the noise behind or near the front passenger seat. Make sure the seat is locked in place if someone has adjusted it. I also started closing the doors a bit harder than usual, and the sound went away for about a week—but I heard it again yesterday.

The most frustrating part is thinking I’ve fixed the rattle, only to hear it again the next day. I sat in the backseat while someone else drove, and it definitely sounds like it’s coming from the rear of the car. When I tapped on the third brake light, that’s the exact noise I hear. I tried adding foam where the brake light meets the glass, but the rattle persists while driving. I’ve read that the brake light housing itself can cause rattling in some cars, but I haven’t had a chance to remove the housing yet.

Yes! I thought I was going crazy too, but I only hear it when my sunroof is open.

I still hear the rattle whether the sunroof is open or closed.

May be a dumb question, but does the sunroof fully open or does it stop at that bar?

“There’s a snake in my boot.”

I know my sunroof rattles a bit. Nothing from the back though.
