How often should I change oil in my Kia K5 GT-Line

About 3-4 months ago, I got my first oil change at 7500 miles, and the place I went to gave me a sticker saying I should change it again at 10,500. The manual says 8,000 miles, but they are telling me to do it after 3000. Are they just trying to take my money?

Yes, if they used the recommended synthetic oil, you don’t need to change it every 3 months. Changing it every 6k to 8k is just fine.

I’m changing mine every 5k for the GT, as stated in the manual.

But the manual says 8k.

That’s for regular driving conditions. Check what they call severe driving, which suggests 5k.

@Mai
I get it, but why are you going by severe instead of normal? I keep hearing different opinions on this.

Because my driving fits the severe category, even if it sounds a bit extreme. They mention things like ‘frequent trips of less than 5 miles’ and ‘driving in areas with road salt’ as reasons.

@Mai
I see what you mean. It’s odd that they count road salt as a severe condition. We only have that for about three months each year.

Most places will put a 3K sticker on your car. Just follow the manual’s recommendation.

I always change mine after 3-4k.

I bought the extra service contract that includes oil changes, and the salesperson advised me to come in every 5,000 miles.

I’m about to reach 12k miles on my car, and it says ‘200 miles until service.’

I have a 22 GT-Line, and I usually go between 5-6K.
