Has Anyone Tried A Thicker Oil For Kia K5 GT?

I live in Puerto Rico, and as you can tell from the map, it’s extremely hot here. I was wondering if anyone has tried using a thicker oil because turbo cars run really hot, especially when the climate is around 90°F every day.

Always follow the manufacturer’s requirements.

This is what I use in my Optima. I do have a big turbo, though.

What the hell, lol. Just use Mobil 1.

Why would you want a thicker oil? Are you towing something? Do you think you’re experiencing more wear than normal?

Indeed, my car keeps telling me to do an oil service 1.5k or 2k miles before it’s supposed to.

@Joy
I didn’t know I could do that! How do I change it?
It doesn’t give me the exact oil time but shows ‘Service In’ every time it’s close.

Are you racing the car by chance? If not, the OEM recommendation is thoroughly protective.

Well, I don’t ‘race’ anyone on the street or track, but I am always speeding and hitting high RPMs for the turbo flutter noise… so technically, yeah.

Do not change the type of oil you use; you are not an engineer. The oil is fine. I live in Phoenix, which is hotter here. This is where a lot of hot weather testing is done by manufacturers.

If you Google how and why engineers choose the oil they do, you can learn why I say this.

@Keenan
Phoenix is dry. Puerto Rico is humid. I don’t know anything about engine oil, but I just wanted to point out it’s not the same type of heat.

Check your owner’s manual to see if Kia has different oil weight recommendations based on climate or temperature ranges. If it’s not in the manual, don’t use it.

@Finlo
I’m just a prospective '25 K5 buyer, but I always ‘rtfm’ when I buy a new car. Actually enjoy doing it, lol.
