Fix for the Reconfiguration Needed Message

After the infotainment update I did in March, I keep getting this message every time I try to set a destination. The system connects, but the message shows up every time. I could only start navigation by hitting close. I called Kia Connect, and they explained how to fix it. Sharing here to save others the time it took me to get help.

See the comment below for the steps to fix it.

Here’s how to fix the reconfiguration message:

  1. Set a destination and wait for the message to appear.
  2. Choose “Reconfigure.”
  3. When the “Kia Connect Activated” screen appears, hit “OK.”
  4. Reset the system by pressing the small pinhole button near the volume/temperature knob (at the 5 o’clock position).
  5. Once the screen reboots and shows the “Drive safely” message, turn off the car.
  6. Open the door and leave it open for 3 minutes.
  7. Close the door, start the car again, and test navigation by setting another destination.

@Kingsley
I tried this twice, but it didn’t work. Could it be because I’m no longer subscribed to Kia Connect?

That could be it. My trial ended, but I’m using the base subscription now, and it worked for me. If it’s still not working, I’d suggest calling Kia Connect to see if they can help. They might need to fix something on their end.

I just called Kia, and they said all you have to do is check the “Don’t show this pop-up again” box and hit reconfigure.

Haha, this is so random. It’s like they’re making you do cheat code steps for an old game. Thanks for sharing the fix, though!

Step 6 cracked me up :joy:

You forgot step 6.5: kick each tire 7 times in a counterclockwise circle starting with the front passenger side.

Cars have so many of these weird steps. Here’s how to get a Ford truck out of transport mode:

  1. Turn the key to “on.”
  2. Wait for the chimes to stop.
  3. Press the brake pedal 5 times.
  4. Turn the hazard lights on and off 5 times.
  5. The horn will honk when it’s done.

@Bryn
It’s like the KiaNami code… I’ll show myself out. :wink:

Thanks for this! I was having the same issue and found your post while I was on hold. You saved me a lot of trouble!

If this message shows up after your free trial for Kia Connect ends, the official fix (from their support team) is just to check the ‘Deactivate pop-up’ box on the message.

It’s frustrating that features like real-time traffic are locked behind a $200/year subscription. :confused:

@Hollis
I can confirm that “Deactivate this pop-up” works. My wife’s Sportage had this issue, and the dealership told her she needed to pay for a subscription. After calling Kia Connect support, they finally admitted you don’t need to pay anything. Just deactivate the message.

We’ll probably subscribe later to update the maps, but for now, this fix saved us from spending unnecessary money.
