Does Anyone Else Have This Issue

I downloaded the new update for the standard Gen5W Navigation for my 2021 K5 EX Premium and it says my vehicle is not compatible with the file. I’ve updated my car with every release since I got it in 2021 so I know I’m doing everything right. I also checked that the download was the 10/12/2023 update and that I picked the correct year for my car. Is anyone else facing this problem or know what’s going on? Is there a bug with the file they uploaded?

You’ve made more progress than me. I can’t even get the update file to download to a flash drive

Oh really? That’s strange. I actually downloaded it twice. I did the second one just to double-check. So maybe there is an issue with the file or the updater. Let me know if you manage to download it and if it works. I will try again tomorrow.

Do we really need these updates

Yes, it updates the mapping software and other important things. If you live in an area with a lot of changes, it’s good to perform the updates.

I had the same issue back in September. I have a service appointment coming up and I was going to ask them to check it out.

Here’s the fix https://www.reddit.com/r/KiaEV6/s/dsVIkV6Py8

@Jensen
I got a bigger flash drive, and it worked fine for me afterward.

Okay, maybe you were dealing with a different issue then. I was getting errors with a 128GB drive, and following those steps resolved it for me. Glad to hear yours got updated!

Just an update I noticed now. The message that I took a picture of starts with KMC, but when I check the list of vehicles that the update is for, my year starts with DL3. That might be the issue. Maybe they labeled the download incorrectly for this model. I’m not sure if that is the problem, but it’s just something I noticed.

I also tried the updates for every year and trim for the K5 just in case they had it swapped. None of them worked including the 2021 GT file. I sent a message to the update site explaining my issue. Hopefully, whatever is going on, especially if it’s their fault, gets fixed soon.

@Bela
I’ve been having this trouble with my Sportage Hybrid. I called Kia Tech Support at 1-888-757-0010. They told me this issue is known. Anyone dealing with the same problem should reach out and report it so they can resolve it faster. They will ask for photos of the error message and your current software information. It’s likely just a simple fix on their end, so the more people who call, the quicker it gets sorted out. They said OTA updates are not ready yet for most, so this is the only way for many of us now.

@Raven
Thanks for the info. Sorry to hear you are having trouble too. I didn’t realize this was a bigger issue than just the K5. I reported it to them as well and gave them all the pics. I haven’t heard back yet, and it’s been about a week. I hope they fix it soon.

The most progress I’ve made with these updates is that it checks for the update, sees it, starts the installation, fails, reboots, and repeats. I’ve never gotten it to work, so I just gave up :man_shrugging:

Same thing happened to me. I tried formatting my drive twice and running the installer twice, still no luck. What’s going on?

Seriously…thank you for sharing that! I haven’t received many responses from anyone on the K5 or Kia forums. I was starting to think there was something wrong with my USB, computer, or car. I’m really sorry this is happening to you too, but at least it shows it’s an issue on their end.

I have no clue what the problem is. I contacted support on the 14th, but I ran into email issues starting the next day, and I just got my emails back yesterday evening. I have no idea if they replied since I can’t check the emails from then. I might reach out to them again for an update.

@Bela
After some research, I think I found the problem. It’s downloading the wrong file completely. The correct file for my car is “DL3_22.USA.55W_M.V009.010.230310” and it should be “DL3_22.USA.S5W_M.V011.004.230919” (note the date at the end of the file which is Sept 19 2023). However, we are getting “KMC.USA.55W_M.V909.010.230616”. I believe the navigation update software is just pulling the wrong software, so it probably needs to be fixed on their end.

@Rory
Great work. That’s exactly what I was thinking. The file is all wrong. When I checked my current version and saw the DL3 at the start and then saw KMC in the message, that’s the conclusion I came to as well. I emailed them again a couple of hours ago, and they asked for all my vehicle details and pictures. I sent everything they requested. I hope to hear back soon. Just so you know, I assume you have a 2022 model based on the numbers you’ve shared. If that’s true, then it seems like many 2021 and 2022 K5 owners may face this issue. Maybe even the 2023 and 2024 models. Since I have a 2021, it seems both of ours are affected.

Their site indicates that the 2022 and 2023 K5 have the same software, but I just downloaded the 2023 version and it’s still the same KMC problem.

@Rory
Yeah. Someone messed up. It’s frustrating. I tried every version listed in the K5 downloads the other day as well and had no luck. Same issue.

@Rory
I’m getting this same message on my 2022 Kia Niro EV EX Premium.
I tried downloading by vehicle type, file name, and radio model number. After those three attempts, I uninstalled the updater from my computer and reinstalled it to see if that helps. I still got the same error but the newer updater downloaded the files faster, taking about 40 minutes instead of 2 and a half hours.
My partner’s 2023 Niro hybrid SX Touring updated successfully with OTA updates.
